A 12‑year‑old girl and a 20‑year‑old intellectually disabled man survive a plane crash that leaves them stranded on an isolated Caribbean island. Rescued near comas, their story is told in flashbacks that show how they endured. Though initially frightened he might assault her, she finds him gentle; they become friends, companions, and eventually lovers, depicted with sensitivity.
