War of the Birds

A violent forest storm erupts as Fagin attacks the peaceful birds. Seven eggs fall from their nest, with only one surviving near the hole in Walter the owl's tree. Betty the bluebird adopts the lone egg and begins to raise it.

That lone egg hatches into a chick whom Betty names Oliver. He grows up in the forest nest near Walter's tree under Betty's care. Walter sometimes watches over him and listens to the forest's morning songs.

Betty travels to the city and meets Olivia, an orphan sparrow whose parents were killed by Fagin. Betty adopts Olivia and brings her back to the forest.

Betty introduces Olivia to Oliver, and the two sparrows quickly become friends. Their friendship brings new energy to the forest as they form bonds with other inhabitants.

Oliver and Olivia wander with two orphaned mice, Fredrick and Ingolf. They play together, and Ingolf falls into a stream but is saved by the group.

The dove returns to warn them about Fagin, the dangerous hunter. They flee and hide until a human ornithologist and his dog chase Fagin away.

Betty finds the group after the escape and scolds them for wandering off. Her stern words remind them to stay safe and listen to wiser birds.

Oliver learns to fly with Olivia's help, practicing through the forest canopy. The two grow more confident as Oliver's wings become stronger.

Oliver and Olivia travel to a nearby town and share a meal at a small market. They encounter a cat, and Olivia uses the same trick Betty once used to outwit it, causing the cat to crash into a box. The fruit stand owner angrily scolds the cat in front of the other birds.

Back in the forest, the dove tells Oliver about Fagin and reveals that his real parents were killed by the same foe. Oliver vows to fight Fagin and protect his friends.

Oliver tries to rally other birds to join the fight, but they are too frightened. Armstrong the seagull invites him to a party that night, giving Oliver a chance to gain allies.

Oliver returns to the nest and Olivia teases him about romance, then they sneak off to Armstrong's party. Armstrong sings about not being afraid of Fagin, and Oliver begins to form a plan to outwit him with help from friends.

Fredrick and Ingolf join Oliver's effort, and they begin to set a trap with Armstrong's help. Fagin learns of the plan and resolves to strike first.

The climactic battle erupts as Fagin corners Olivia and fights Oliver. The dove intervenes while Fredrick and Olivia leap into the fire to aid Oliver, and the dove's wing is crippled. Fagin's wing catches fire and both he and the dove perish in the flames, while the group mourns but has achieved the victory.

In the aftermath, the forest returns to harmony without Fagin's threat. Oliver and Olivia become mates and have two children, while Walter continues to tell stories to their offspring. Ingolf makes a successful first flight.
