Plot Summary
In 1812 Napoleon’s forces invade Russia. Kutuzov asks Bolkonsky to join as staff officer, but he insists on a field command. Pierre travels to observe the clash, joining an artillery battery at Borodino. Bolkonsky’s reserve unit holds back, yet he is hit by a shell; both he and his son Anatol suffer serious wounds. The French win and go to Moscow.
