In 1934 Paris, Richard di Nardo, a young gay hustler, departs from the apartment of middle-aged Carroll Todd after spending the night together. As he gets dressed, he discreetly takes some cash from Toddy's wallet before heading out into the city.

Carroll Todd, who performs at the club Chez Lui, witnesses a sobering moment when the club owner, Labisse, dismisses the impoverished soprano Victoria Grant after a disappointing audition. However, Victoria surprises everyone by showcasing her incredible vocal talent, demonstrated by shattering a wine glass with her voice.

Later that evening, Victoria struggles with her finances while dining at a local restaurant, torn between paying her rent or enjoying a meal. In a frantic moment, she drops a cockroach into her salad, causing a panic among the patrons and leading to an uproar as they flee the scene.

Amid the commotion at the restaurant, Victoria and Toddy strike up a connection over dinner and eventually head to Toddy's place for shelter from the rain. At his apartment, she realizes her clothing has shrunk, leading to an awkward and humorous situation.

The atmosphere shifts when Richard returns to collect his belongings from Toddy's apartment. In a comical twist, Victoria, now dressed in Richard's clothes, hides in the closet to avoid detection, but boldly kicks Richard out, showcasing her newfound courage.

After Richard's exit, Toddy concocts a plan to pass off Victoria as a gay female impersonator named Count Victor Grazinski. They approach the successful agent, Andre Cassell, who is easily convinced and excited to represent the disguised Victoria.

Victoria, now Count Victor Grazinski, quickly rises to fame in the Paris nightclub scene. Her captivating performances draw the attention of club owner King Marchand and his girlfriend Norma Cassidy, leading to a whirlwind of success.

As Victor's popularity grows, King Marchand found himself smitten by the mysterious performer. However, the tension escalates when Victor's true identity threatens to be revealed, putting their budding romance in jeopardy.

The situation becomes chaotic with a series of humorous disagreements and secret meetings involving Victoria, King, and Norma. A bar brawl further complicates their interactions, intertwining their lives in a comedic yet tumultuous manner.

Amid her rising fame, Victoria struggles with her identity and the pressures surrounding her relationship with King. As complications arise, including threats from King's partner and the club owner Labisse, she contemplates dropping her alter ego altogether.

During a dramatic showdown at the club, Victoria finally reveals her true self, dispelling the persona of Count Victor. This shocking announcement occurs just as Toddy, still disguised as Victor, is caught in a comedic confrontation with an inspector claiming foul play.
