Mamachan is an unmarried politician in his forties who leads a relatively unknown party based in North India that barely has any presence in Kerala. Despite his position as the party’s national figure, he is frequently taunted and underestimated by locals in the village of Karthikapuram, where his reputation for cunning and slippery tactics follows him like a shadow.

The story follows Mamachan as he sets out to settle down and wonders if a marriage could also anchor his fluctuating political life. He visits a prospective bride, only to be chased away by her father, Wareed, who has a complicated history with Mamachan. The bride’s mother, Mollykutty, was once a teen friend of Mamachan, and a past incident—Mamachan slapping Wareed when Wareed wooed Mollykutty—still lingers in the village memory. This personal history complicates any immediate union, even as the political wheels keep turning.

In a bid to take his career seriously and silence his taunting, Mamachan travels to Delhi and is told to stand for elections in Kerala with a curious understanding: if he loses his election deposit in Kerala, he will be elevated to a central role. The arrangement is orchestrated by his associate and rival, Gopi, who recognizes both Mamachan’s talent for manipulation and the jealousy that a central position would spark among colleagues back home. Gopi’s calculation is clear—let Mamachan win a seat as a state legislator so he stays grounded in the local power structure rather than moving to a more coveted center stage.

Gopi’s plan hinges on rallying Mamachan’s rivals to work toward his victory in the Erikkur constituency. In a twist that reveals the machinations of modern politics, Mamachan ends up winning the election, and the victory is portrayed as a strategic play to keep him from Delhi. The revelation—that the entire setup was designed to secure a safe seat for Mamachan—underscores a central theme of the story: the blurring line between personal ambition and political cunning.

As the political plot unfolds, a separate alliance is formed around Mamachan’s prospective bride. The union is arranged with a Mumbai-based man named Charlie, who disappears on the day of the wedding, throwing the community into a crisis of trust and honor. To protect the bride and her family’s reputation, the village elders and the local priest intervene and urge Mamachan to marry the bride in the absence of the groom.
