Vanished

Jack and Max argue about Jasmine, who has phoned to demand he retrieve his possessions from her place, as they drive through Los Angeles. The tension between the half-brothers hints at violence to come. Their uneasy partnership is about to be tested by a dangerous plan.

They arrive at a posh mansion, mask up and armed, and kidnap Emma. Emma fights back during the abduction, and Max shoots a neighbor who comes to investigate. Jack’s reluctance to violence surfaces even as they subdue their captive.

Emma is forced to record a ransom demand for her wealthy father. She reveals she hasn’t spoken to him in years and dismisses the kidnappers as amateurs. When the father calls back, Jack threatens to kill Emma unless he talks, escalating the stakes.

Shane, Jack’s war buddy, drives them to a motel where they stash Emma. Mexican cartel hitmen search the van and recognize the owner’s name as a possible past hit, though they’re not sure. The group senses they are being tracked.

Jack surprises a cartel hitman and kills him, then questions another. The cartel has tracked them via Emma’s cell phone, and it becomes clear Carlos, Emma’s father, has no intention of paying. After eliminating the remaining hitman, they flee the motel.

Jack explains he never intended to collect the ransom and suspects Carlos killed Emma’s mother and his own father. He shows Emma a ring that she confirms belongs to her father, strengthening his theory and resolve. The plan begins to fracture as trust erodes.

As they approach a checkpoint, Max murders the officer who stops them, shocking Shane. Max then reveals he is the carjacker who killed Jasmine’s former boyfriend, signaling his dangerous unreliability. Shane becomes wary of Max’s instability.

Shane secretly proposes an alliance with Emma while she lures Jack and Max out of the van to urinate. Shane searches for a weapon and, when Max returns, breaks a shotgun from its lockbox. Max taunts him, suggesting it takes a psychopath to recognize one.

Max taunts Shane, who then shoots him with an unloaded weapon. Shane stabs Max to death and explains to Jack that Max attacked him. He uses the empty shotgun to disarm Jack and drives off with Emma, declaring Jack’s revenge plan doomed.

Shane reveals PTSD and a history of heroin use and violence against women. He grows increasingly aggressive and attempts to assault Emma, who fights back and wounds him with a power tool. In the ensuing struggle, Emma kills Shane.

Emma drives to the checkpoint, where she tells her father she has killed all the kidnappers. He finally confesses to killing Jack’s father and Emma’s mother, reframing the night’s violence with a family‑wide motive. The truth binds Emma and Jack in a grim resolve.

Emma and Jack, who have been hiding, kill Carlos and then defeat his cartel henchmen. Jack dies from his wounds during the clash, leaving Emma bloodied and determined. She pushes Jack’s body from the van and drives off into the night.

Bloodied and exhausted, Emma drives away alone, carrying the memory and consequences of the night’s violence. The ending underscores a solitary, unsettling escape rather than closure. She continues forward with the weight of what happened.
