Cheung Sap-yat, an exorcist in Jiangxi, discovers a Ming dynasty vase that contains a demon spirit. The demon is revealed to be a renegade disciple of Cheung's ancestor. This unusual vessel becomes the thread that ties future events across generations and borders.

Siu-bo leads Cultural Revolution supporters to seize the vase from Cheung. Realizing the danger, Cheung hurls the vase into the sea to prevent its use in dark rites. The vase then begins its perilous voyage toward Hong Kong.

The vase floats across the seas and eventually arrives in Hong Kong. It is put up for a charity auction, attracting attention from eager bidders. The artifact's ominous aura attracts Stephen Kei and his son Jacky.

At the charity auction, Stephen Kei and his son Jacky bid HK$1.8 million for the vase. They take it home that night, unaware of the malevolent power now in their hands. The exchange seals the demon's next line of attack.

Stephen's religious mother senses something off about the vase, while Mable teams up with Chan Pak-tung, a fraud who pretends to perform a Taoist ritual. Chan's fake ritual involves tossing cigar ash into the vase, and a demon's hand suddenly emerges. The plan sets off a dangerous encounter.

The vase begins smoking and the demon exits, knocking Stephen unconscious. The demon then possesses Stephen, and the family initially mistakes the masked danger for a prank as a shrine's glow reveals the truth. The family braces for a terrifying confrontation.

Cheung illegally arrives in Hong Kong and makes his way to the Kei mansion, aided by a traffic cop who hallucinates on cue. He attempts to exorcise the demon, but the possessed Stephen shoots him with a sniper rifle and drives him away.

During the ensuing struggle, Jacky accidentally runs over Cheung while driving with Cat and retrieves him to his mansion. Cheung survives but loses his exorcism tools, complicating the fight against the demon.

The following morning, Cheung finds Jacky and Cat in a church and warns them about Stephen's possession. They dismiss him as paranoid, delaying any possible countermeasures. The warning plants the seeds for a wider confrontation to come.

The demon-possessed Stephen meets Councilor Lee, who notices Stephen's abnormal behavior. The demon triggers a hallucination that makes Lee’s belt transform into a snake, leading to Lee’s fatal car crash. During a thunderstorm, the demon briefly reveals its true form to Mable.

The demon's true form is witnessed by Mable, who warns Chan. Chan hides in fear as Cheung arrives to confront the possession, but neither can prove the supernatural threat in time. The danger escalates as the demon tightens its grip on the Kei family.

Cheung and Chan kidnap the demon-possessed Micky, but a crash during the escape sends them to the hospital. Doctors note that Micky's brainwaves are unusually strong, signaling an extraordinary danger. The team adjusts their plans around the fragile state of Micky.

Cheung explains that a spiritual pole and a Taoist mirror hidden inside the vase are needed to exorcise the demon. The trio locate the pole in a car and retrieve the mirror from the vase, and Cheung briefly possesses Cat and then Jacky to aid the fight. In the abandoned Kei mansion, Jacky stabs the demon with the pole, exorcising it, and Stephen seems freed, though a tree falls as a final twist; Jacky and Cat save the vase from shattering.
