Unfinished Business

Dan leaves his job after a pay dispute with Chuck Portnoy and launches Apex Select to sell metal swarf. Tim McWinters and Mike Pancake decide to follow him and join the new venture. They operate from a makeshift Dunkin' Donuts office as they try to get the business off the ground.

A year into Apex Select, the venture is barely afloat. The team continues from a makeshift Dunkin' Donuts office while chasing investors and clients, facing mounting pressure to deliver results.

Dan travels to Portland to pitch Jim Spinch and Bill Whilmsley, hoping to secure funding. Chuck Portnoy is also there, attempting to close a deal with the same investors. Dan faints in the middle of the presentation, forcing Mike to step in.

Dan scrambles to regain command of the pitch with Mike and Tim while Chuck's rival presence lingers. The team senses Dan's wavering confidence and the personal distractions around Tim and Mike add to the tension.

Dan is sent to Berlin to meet Gelger’s Dirk Austerlitz, hoping to land the larger parent deal. The trio travels to Germany to meet Helen Harlmann in a unisex sauna, who initially distrusts Dan. Dan opens up by undressing to win her trust, with Mike and Tim joining despite his warning.

In Berlin, Dan discovers his hotel room has been turned into an exhibit called 'American Businessman 42', watched as he crunches numbers. Tim buys ecstasy from a hotel youth, highlighting the chaotic atmosphere surrounding their mission. Dan begins to refine his numbers to outdo Chuck.

Tim and Mike shadow Bill to a gay nightclub during the Folsom Europe Festival, where Dan encounters Bill in a room with men at glory holes. Bill explains this is how he maintains pleasure, while also reviewing Dan's numbers and noting how easy it is to derail life.

Back in the formal talks, Jim learns that Dirk is actually in St. Louis, not Berlin. Although Dan's numbers look strong, they aren’t sufficient to close the deal at this stage. The trio keeps pushing forward despite the geographic misdirection.

The trio spends time with youths at the hotel, choosing honesty and some smoking. Dan also speaks with his daughter about a confrontation defending Paul, and reassures his son that he will take care of him.

Feeling overwhelmed, Dan drinks with strangers who admire his 'American Businessman 42' persona. He awakens hungover but resolves to press on, drawing strength from his personal life to propel Apex Select forward.

Inspired, Dan joins the St. Louis marathon and ignores officials’ pleas to quit. His fans cheer as a news crew spots him, making his finish a poignant moment that signals renewed resolve for both his business and family.

Dan secures a meeting with Maarten Daaervk through Bill, navigating a riot outside Daaervk's building and being pelted with paintballs. Daaervk is impressed by their front-page presentation and closes the deal, saving Apex Select. The team celebrates in front of Chuck and Jim.

Back home, Mike rejoins his friends at the special home and boasts about his Berlin experiences. Tim reunites with the maid he met in Portland, while Dan rejoins his family with renewed confidence about their future.
