Under the Same Moon (La misma luna)

Rosario, a single mother, makes the difficult decision to leave her young son Carlitos in Mexico with his ailing grandmother. Determined to find a better life and provide for Carlitos, she embarks on a perilous journey across the US-Mexico border to Los Angeles.

On Carlitos' ninth birthday, he receives the devastating news that his grandmother has passed away in her sleep. Following this loss, he learns that his aunt and uncle plan to gain custody of him to access the money his mother sends home.

Motivated by his desire to reunite with his mother, Carlitos arranges for coyotes to help him cross the border at El Paso–Juárez. He bravely sets off on this dangerous journey, risking everything to be with Rosario.

After their vehicle is impounded by the police, Carlitos finds himself stranded in El Paso, Texas. In a vulnerable moment, he accidentally drops his money and is nearly sold to a pimp, but a compassionate local woman saves him.

In the midst of chaos, a police raid forces Carlitos to escape with Enrique, a reluctant companion. Despite their initial tension, they forge a bond when Enrique chooses to protect Carlitos from a robbery attempt shortly after.

As they continue their journey, Carlitos and Enrique find work at a local restaurant. During this time, Carlitos seeks out his estranged father, only to be let down by his father's empty promises of support.

Determined to find his mother, Carlitos and Enrique decide to take a bus to Los Angeles. The ride is filled with hope and uncertainty as they travel towards a city that promises both challenges and opportunities.

Upon arriving in East LA, Carlitos and Enrique search for a payphone connected to Rosario’s weekly calls, but their hopes are dashed when they only find a P.O. box. After a frustrating day, they rest on a bench close to Rosario, unaware of each other's presence.

Meanwhile, Rosario faces her own challenges in Los Angeles as she loses her job due to immigration issues. In a desperate move to gain stability, she marries a U.S. citizen for a green card, planning to return to Mexico to search for Carlitos.

As Rosario boards a bus, she catches a fleeting glimpse of a boy at a payphone, making her heart race. Sensing that Carlitos may be near, she is filled with a mixture of hope and anxiety.

The following morning, a police confrontation puts Carlitos and Enrique in a perilous situation. In a moment of bravery, Enrique distracts the officers by throwing his coffee at them, allowing Carlitos to escape while he is arrested.

In a climactic moment, Carlitos finally locates the payphone where Rosario waits for him across the street. As they see each other, she shouts for him not to cross yet; they share a tense moment filled with hope for a reunion as the crosswalk changes from red to green.

As the credits roll, the scene hints at a reunion between Carlitos and Rosario that is both anticipated and hopeful. The challenges they faced have only strengthened their bond as they look forward to a new beginning together.
