Tommy Tricker and the Stamp Traveller

Ralph James is a shy stamp enthusiast living in Montreal, hampered by a timid personality and a stutter. His ordinary life is disrupted when Tommy Tricker, a confident stamp dealer and con artist, arrives at his house with a bold proposition.

Tommy offers a set of rare permanent stamps in exchange for Ralph's spare Bluenose, a stamp belonging to Ralph's father. Ralph hesitates but agrees, only for Tommy to replace the stamps and flee with the Bluenose. He sells the stamp for $300 to buy groceries.

Ralph's parents return home with Mr. Bronson, a visiting elderly stamp collector. Ralph is too afraid to confront them and hides in the backyard guest house, avoiding the confrontation. The moment marks the beginning of Ralph's trouble with the con artist.

On Nancy's suggestion, they go to the stamp store to try to buy back the stamp but cannot afford it. The store owners, moved by pity, give Nancy an old stamp album for free. Back at home, Ralph indiscriminately tears up the album, only to uncover a hidden letter tucked inside.

Joined by their friend Albert, Ralph and Nancy discover the album belonged to Charles Merriweather, an eleven-year-old boy from 1913. A second letter reveals he hid a priceless stamp collection in a Sydney stamp shop. They also find a secret magic riddle that lets a person shrink and travel by mail.

Ralph recites the riddle in a park, triggering a magical shrinking that lets him enter a stamp on a letter addressed to Australia. Nancy and Albert attempt to reach him but are repelled by a force, forcing them to abandon the attempt. This marks the beginning of his extraordinary journey.

The letter circulates through a chain of hands—from a child to a thief to a homeless man—before ending up with Tommy. Tommy detaches the stamp and sticks it to a stolen postcard, then mails Ralph away. This sets Ralph on a dangerous, unknown path.

The postcard lands in Hangzhou, China, where Chen Tow and Mai Ling help decipher Nancy's postcards. Ralph discovers he's in Chen Tow's city, but he refuses to enter another stamp because the streets are too busy, a sign Mai Ling reads as a lack of courage.

Ralph, Chen Tow, and Mai Ling set out by boat to a quieter area for the night, where Ralph will be mailed again with the help of a paper dragon. Chen Tow falls into the water, and Ralph jumps in to save him. Chen Tow climbs back aboard, and Mai Ling reveals that Ralph has passed a test of courage.

The postcard lands in Sydney, and Ralph is delivered to Cheryl, who explains that a boy claiming to be Charles had arrived the day before. Tommy, in disguise as Charles, is captured and detained by Mad Mike and his partner Dave. Ralph negotiates for Tommy and the stamp book, noting that his stutter has faded.

The group is mailed back to Canada by a kangaroo the next morning. Back home, Ralph's parents and Mr. Bronson are surprised to see the return and discover the original Bluenose is back in Ralph's father's possession, with a second Bluenose now bearing Charles on the bow.

Mr. Bronson reveals the second stamp depicting Charles Merriweather, hidden for decades. Ralph engineers a plan to mail the stamp to himself to free Charles, but Tommy relapses and steals the stamp, sparking a chase.

An ending voice-over reveals that Tommy eventually mailed the stamp to Mr. Bronson, freeing Charles, who remains eleven in appearance but is now seventy-one in age. Charles then resides in a spare bedroom at Mr. Bronson's house, finally living a life outside the stamp.
