A lightning bolt beheads the statue of the former mayor, which Jonathan interprets as a sign from his late son. He voices concern that the warning is about Anne’s life choices.

Anne goes to New York City to commission a statue of her late husband from the sculptor George Corday. The trip opens a doorway to new ambitions and a different kind of influence in her life.

At dinner, Anne and George Corday connect and find themselves attracted to each other. He even helps her win a bet about her weight by adjusting the scale, revealing a playful but provocative dynamic.

They later visit Leonardo's, where a striptease performance unfolds and George’s observations about Anne’s life unsettle her. The evening reveals the widening gap between her past and present.

During a police raid, Gilda La Verne escapes and Anne is mistaken for the stripper, leading to her arrest. The incident throws her new life into sharp relief.

Newspaper photographers swarm as the arrest becomes public, and Anne is photographed half-naked while covering her face; she uses the alias P. Borat Sosa to protect her identity.

Back in Brookhaven, Anne tells her family that the sculptor was busy and she was in the city, but Jonathan remains suspicious. She ultimately admits where she was and that she was arrested for indecency.

George arrives to stay with the Crandalls until the statue is finished, and both Anne and her stepdaughter Diana grow wary and attracted, complicating family dynamics.

Anne makes a deal with George: he will keep quiet about the arrest if he can work on the statue for one week. The arrangement brings them physically closer and stirs tension with Diana.
