In the year 2169, society has advanced technologically to the point where aging is halted at the age of 25. Individuals receive only one free year to live, after which, if their time runs out, they face instantaneous death.

In this dystopian world, time functions as the universal currency. It can be exchanged between individuals or stored in capsules, causing a stark division in society based on the amount of time each person possesses.

Society is split into 'Time Zones' with Dayton representing the impoverished ghetto where residents often struggle to accumulate more than 24 hours. In contrast, New Greenwich is a wealthy enclave where the elite enjoy extended lives due to their vast time resources.

Will Salas, a factory worker, lives in Dayton with his mother, Rachel. Their lives take a dramatic turn one night when Will saves a man named Henry Hamilton from being robbed, which sets off a series of consequential events.

After rescuing Hamilton, Will learns the harsh realities of the time economy when Hamilton selflessly transfers all his time to him before timing out. This sudden loss of Hamilton raises suspicions of murder against Will from the authorities.

Will’s friend Borel warns him about the dangers of possessing too much time, highlighting the tension between the wealthy and the poor. In a generous moment, Will decides to bestow ten years upon Borel as a symbol of their friendship.

Will attempts to take his mother to New Greenwich to provide her with more time, but she tragically times out just before he can save her. This personal loss fuels Will's determination to seek revenge against the wealthy elite.

Will ventures to a casino in New Greenwich and wins a fortune in time through a high-stakes poker game against Philippe Weis. However, his success is short-lived as he is apprehended by the Timekeepers shortly after.

In a bid to escape, Will takes Sylvia, Weis's daughter, hostage and attempts to flee back to Dayton. However, they are ambushed by Fortis's gang and pushed to compromise, with each losing substantial time.

Will discovers that his friend Borel has died due to an alcohol overdose from trying to cope with the 'time' situation in Dayton. This loss drives Will to take extreme actions to reclaim time for his community.

Will demands a 1,000-year ransom from Philippe Weis in exchange for Sylvia's freedom, aiming to use the wealth to help the people of Dayton. When Weis refuses, Will takes a drastic step by releasing Sylvia, leading to unexpected confrontations.

Together, Will and Sylvia embark on a mission to rob time banks and distribute time capsules among the impoverished in Dayton. However, they face the reality that their actions inadvertently cause prices to rise.

As Fortis's gang persists in pursuing them, Will takes a stand and eliminates Fortis and his crew. This act of defiance marks a critical turning point in Will's quest for justice against the system.

Will and Sylvia successfully steal a one-million-year time capsule from Weis's vault, further challenging the status quo. Their efforts bring the attention of the Timekeepers back to Dayton, intensifying the conflict.

With factories in Dayton falling apart as citizens can finally leave their jobs, Jaeger commands a retreat among the Timekeepers. Meanwhile, Will and Sylvia continue fighting to destabilize the oppressive time system.
