In Malaysia, Yelena Belova undertakes a covert operation to destroy a laboratory that is involved in the O.X.E. Group's dubious 'Sentry' superhuman project. This action is executed on behalf of CIA director Valentina Allegra de Fontaine to obscure any evidence of their illicit activities.

Faced with the threat of impeachment, de Fontaine sends Yelena, John Walker, Ava Starr, and Taskmaster on a deceptive mission to a covert O.X.E. facility. Unbeknownst to them, their real fate lies in a deadly confrontation.

Once at the facility, the operatives find themselves pitted against one another in a lethal showdown. In this chaos, Ava Starr kills Taskmaster, which marks a crucial turning point in their mission as they struggle to survive.

Amidst the confrontation, a mysterious man named Bob is unexpectedly released from a suspended animation pod. This shocking event shifts the dynamics of the situation as they grapple with the implications of Bob's presence.

Realizing that they have been sent to be incinerated along with evidence of de Fontaine's misconduct, Yelena and the others manage to escape the trap just in time. Their survival marks the beginning of a gripping chase against the odds.

De Fontaine learns of the survival of the group, including Bob, who was presumed dead. As she arrives at the site, Bob distracts enemies by drawing fire away from Yelena, Walker, and Ava, enabling their escape during a tense standoff.

After successfully driving away enemy fire, Bob begins to exhibit strange powers as he ascends uncontrollably into the air. His erratic behavior culminates in a crash-landing at the compound, drawing further attention and complications.

De Fontaine sees Bob as a potential asset and plans to introduce him to the press as a new super-powered protector, akin to the Avengers. This PR stunt is aimed at salvaging her reputation amidst the threat of impeachment.

As de Fontaine's agents pursue the group, they are unexpectedly rescued by Alexei Shostakov. He overheard de Fontaine's plot and helps them escape, showing the lengths he is willing to go to protect Yelena and the others.

The Thunderbolts are apprehended by Bucky Barnes, who intervenes to ensure they testify in the impeachment proceedings against de Fontaine. This interaction adds another layer to their mission as Barnes joins their ranks.

The Thunderbolts learn that de Fontaine has convinced Bob to take her side in a plan to position him as a new superhero known as the Sentry. This duality in Bob's narrative becomes a central conflict for the team.

During a confrontation, the Sentry turns on de Fontaine, developing a delusion of god-like superiority. This results in his incapacity and the triggering of the Void, Bob's destructive alter ego, which begins to ravage New York City.

To confront the Void and save Bob, Yelena bravely enters the supernatural darkness threatening the city. Here, she must face her own haunted past as a Black Widow and find a way to reconnect with Bob's lost consciousness.

As the Thunderbolts successfully navigate through Bob's memories and confront the Void, they face overwhelming power. Yet, their solidarity and belief in Bob allow him to regain control, overcoming the darkness and restoring normality.

With the threat of the Void neutralized, the Thunderbolts aim to bring de Fontaine to justice. However, she manages to manipulate public perception by rebranding them as the New Avengers, securing her political survival.
