SPECTRE operative Emilio Largo devises an audacious plan to hold NATO to ransom by hijacking two atomic bombs from a Royal Air Force Avro Vulcan bomber. His plan involves demanding $280 million or 100 million pounds from NATO in exchange for the safety of the bombs.

SPECTRE operative Count Lippe recruits Angelo Palazzi to oversee the theft of the nuclear bombs. To facilitate this operation, they surgically alter Angelo's face to resemble that of François Derval, a French Air Force pilot involved in the NATO exercise.

While staying at the Shrublands health resort, Fiona Volpe and Angelo murder the real François Derval. This gruesome act is part of their scheme to assume his identity and proceed with the heist undetected.

James Bond, recuperating at the health resort, becomes suspicious of Count Lippe and starts to investigate. During his inquiry, he uncovers the body of Derval, which had been hidden away and replaced with Angelo.

As Bond delves deeper into his investigation, an assassination attempt is made on him. Count Lippe targets Bond for interference, but his plot is foiled when Fiona Volpe eliminates him to protect Largo's plans.

Angelo successfully hijacks the RAF Avro Vulcan bomber, utilizing nerve gas to kill its crew without affecting himself. He then lands the aircraft in shallow waters in the Bahamas for Largo's men to recover the bombs.

After the successful heist, Largo murders Angelo for attempting to renegotiate the terms of their agreement. This act of treachery solidifies Largo's ruthless character and his control over SPECTRE operations.

Upon returning to London, Bond is briefed about the theft of the bombs and the urgent situation. All 00 agents are put on high alert as SPECTRE threatens to destroy a major city unless their demands are met.

Bond travels to Nassau, Bahamas, where he meets Domino, Derval's sister, who is unknowingly entangled with Largo. A tense encounter at a local casino exposes a complex game of deception between Bond and Largo.

In Nassau, Bond meets with CIA agent Felix Leiter and MI6 quartermaster Q. They arm him with advanced equipment necessary for locating the bombs, including underwater cameras and breathing apparatus.

Bond investigates Largo's yacht, Disco Volante, discovering an underwater hatch that could facilitate the bomb's transport. His discovery, however, leads to a confrontation with Largo's henchmen.

During a nighttime visit to Largo's estate, Bond uncovers that fellow agent Paula Caplan has been abducted. Tragically, she commits suicide before revealing any secrets, intensifying Bond's mission against Largo.

Bond's escape from Lui's men culminates in a confrontation with Fiona Volpe, resulting in her death. She tries to hold Bond captive but ultimately becomes a victim of the ongoing power struggle between the characters.

Bond and Leiter discover the missing Vulcan hidden underwater, revealing one of the stolen bombs. This crucial find guides their next steps to thwart Largo's plans and recover the stolen nuclear weapons.

Bond pursues Largo aboard Disco Volante; in a dramatic climax, Domino kills Largo, helping Bond and herself escape. They narrowly evade the destruction of the yacht, ensuring the safety of the bombs.
