As the drama unfolds in this gripping tale, an American gangster named Rodney takes a grave risk by entering the domain of the infamous hitman Francisco Scaramanga. Under the pretense of taking out the lethal assassin for a bounty, Rodney unwittingly steps into a bizarre funhouse that lies within Scaramanga’s estate, where he meets his fatal end at the hands of the cunning killer.
Meanwhile, back in London, MI6 is thrown into a state of concern when a mysterious golden bullet is delivered, marked with the ominous “007.” This alarming signal compels M to intervene in Bond’s (played by Roger Moore) ongoing mission to locate a missing solar energy expert, Gibson, redirecting him to a treacherous task of tracking down Scaramanga instead.
Bond’s adventure begins with a tantalizing lead from Moneypenny, which sets him on an unofficial chase for the elusive Scaramanga. His search takes him through the vibrant streets of Beirut, where he successfully extracts a spent golden bullet from a captivating belly dancer. Following this trail, Bond finds himself in Macau, getting crucial intelligence from a reluctant gunsmith about the lethal weapons employed by Scaramanga.
Continuing his relentless pursuit, Bond arrives in Hong Kong, where he coerces Andrea Anders, Scaramanga’s enchanting mistress, into revealing vital details about her lover’s identity and sinister intentions. Her ambiguous hints direct Bond to the Bottoms Up Club, where he witnesses Scaramanga ruthlessly eliminate Gibson and steal the Solex Agitator, a prized device with the power to harness solar energy.
As local police lieutenant Hip begins to close in, Bond finds himself apprehended and taken to the dilapidated RMS Queen Elizabeth, where he reunites with M and Q. The mission grows more complex as he collaborates with Hip to retrieve the stolen Solex and thwart Scaramanga’s malevolent plots.
Bond then travels to Bangkok, adopting Scaramanga’s likeness by showcasing his fabricated third nipple to gain access to Hai Fat’s lavish estate. Unbeknownst to him, Scaramanga is orchestrating events from the shadows. In a grim showdown, Bond is captured, facing life-or-death battles against formidable foes.
Using his wit and resilience, Bond escapes with the assistance of Hip and his nieces, taking off in a long-tail boat to reunite with his daring ally Mary Goodnight. However, Scaramanga’s cold-hearted strategies lead to Hai Fat’s brutal murder, allowing him to seize control over the Solex and expand his criminal empire.
As the enigmatic nature of Anders becomes clearer, she reveals to Bond her intricate plan to deliver the bullet to London, intending to set up Scaramanga’s downfall while offering him the Solex in return for their night of passion. Yet, their intimacy is short-lived as Anders meets a tragic end at a Muay Thai match, a bullet piercing her heart.
Scaramanga soon confronts Bond, but our charismatic hero cleverly manages to pass the Solex to Hip, who gives it to Goodnight. Scaramanga’s schemes intensify, putting Goodnight in danger when she tails Nick Nack in her attempt to plant a homing device on Scaramanga’s vehicle. However, Scaramanga outsmarts her, trapping her in the trunk of the car.
Trusting his instincts, Bond chases after Scaramanga, even commandeering an AMC Hornet from a showroom with the quirky J.W. Pepper, his Louisianan ally from previous escapades, along for the ride. The thrilling chase culminates when Scaramanga’s AMC Matador unexpectedly transforms into a flying machine, soaring into the air.
Utilizing Goodnight’s homing signal, Bond pilots an RC-3 Seabee seaplane, heading towards Scaramanga’s island nestled in the Red Chinese waters. Upon his arrival, Scaramanga greets Bond, eager to showcase his solar power plant facility obtained from Hai Fat. During this demonstration, Scaramanga uses the solar-powered energy beam to obliterate Bond’s seaplane, eliminating his escape route.
Over a leisurely lunch, Scaramanga challenges Bond to a pistol duel on the beach, with Nick Nack presiding. In the ensuing game, when Bond turns and shoots, Scaramanga eludes him, disappearing into thin air. Nick Nack guides Bond through Scaramanga’s twisted manor and funhouse, culminating in a surprising turn where Bond outsmarts and dispatches Scaramanga by masquerading as a mannequin.
Goodnight proves her worth, taking down Scaramanga’s security chief Kra, but a sudden accident plunges Kra into a liquid helium vat, leading to chaos as the facility’s temperature spirals dangerously high. Seizing the moment, Bond retrieves the Solex just before the plant meets its fiery destruction, escaping aboard Scaramanga’s sleek Chinese junk. In a final showdown with Nick Nack, Bond captures the feeling of romance with Goodnight, setting the stage for their blossoming connection amidst the chaos.
