Three Wise Men and a Baby

Barbara Brenner Margaret Colin asks her three grown sons—Luke Brenner Andrew W. Walker, Taylor Brenner Tyler Hynes, and Stephan Brenner Paul Campbell—to spend the days around Christmas at her house. Each brother carries a different burden from the past: Stephan is an animal therapist who struggles with social phobia and a strong cleanliness obsession, and he even rejects Susie Fiona Vroom when she expresses interest in him, offering the excuse that they are too different. Taylor leads a chaotic life, living in the basement of his mother’s home and retreating as soon as serious matters arise; he even quits his job right before Christmas because he feels out of place on his team. Luke, the calm in the trio, often sits in the background and looks after others, sometimes neglecting to build a home of his own. Yet despite their personal misfires in love, the brothers share a common thread: they’re all unsuccessful when it comes to romance.

One afternoon, Luke, working as a firefighter, discovers a baby at the door of the fire station with a note naming the child Thomas and asking Luke to care for him until Christmas. Moved by a desire to help, Luke brings the baby to his mother’s house, where his brothers pitch in to keep watch. Barbara receives a call from their aunt, who’s had an accident and suffered a concussion, and she heads out to help, leaving her sons to tend to the infant and decorate in her absence. A snowstorm soon locks Barbara away, forcing the brothers to guard the baby and face the holiday challenge together.

Taylor begins the babysitting duty since the others have to work, but his inexperience shows up quickly: he buys adult diapers by mistake when shopping for the baby. Stephan then steps in, baking cookies with the infant and focusing so intently on soothing the child that he misses the cookies burning in the oven. Taylor eventually steps in again, and the two brothers grow closer as they share the responsibility and navigate the chaos of feeding, soothing, and keeping the baby safe. Luke comes home yet again to find the trio overwhelmed by their new role, and he spends a moment baking cookies with the infant before heading back out. When he returns that evening, however, Stephan notices something odd: a different baby sleeps in the bassinet. After a tense moment, they manage to return the baby to his rightful parents and swap Thomas back into place.

With Thomas safe again, the brothers embark on small adventures—visiting a Christmas market, ice skating, and coaxing laughter from the infant—while their mother’s home becomes a hub of activity and warmth. Their arrogant neighbor Hernandez [Paul Almeida] flaunts his Las Vegas–style Christmas decorations, claiming he will win the TV station prize once more. Spurred by a friendly rivalry, the brothers rally to out-decorate Hernandez, enlisting help from Susie and Fiona to pull off a display that feels grander than ever before. Fiona [Ali Liebert] arrives with practical ideas and a steady hand, while Susie [Fiona Vroom] brings her own spark to the plan. When the TV station announces the winner that evening, a Christmas fire truck pulls up in front of the house, its lights flickering over the entire street. The power generator strains under the load of the elaborate lights, and the brothers’ nativity play must be performed under a single spotlight, with the truck’s star serving as the only other illumination. Fiona manages to reset the fuses just in time, and though Hernandez is declared the winner, he is visibly impressed by his rivals’ effort and invites them for a glass of eggnog.

Barbara finally returns from visiting their aunt, and an unexpected newcomer pushes its way into the scene: Sophie [Nicole Major], the mother of baby Thomas, emerges from the crowd as the truth behind the boy’s arrival is revealed. Sophie explains that, as a single mother, she felt completely overwhelmed during the Christmas season, and Luke was the first to check on her at the hospital when Thomas was born. Her trust in Luke deepens their budding closeness, and she and Luke begin to grow closer in the days that follow.

Meanwhile, Stephan musters up the courage to speak to Susie about his feelings, and their long-simmering tension culminates in a kiss. Fiona also steps in to advocate for Taylor, speaking to her boss on his behalf so he’ll be given another chance. He admits his mistakes and tells her that he doesn’t want to lose her again, signaling a hopeful turn in their relationship. As the days pass, the brothers begin to see a future opening up in front of them—not only for their family dynamic but also for the lives of the women who stand by them.

A year later, Christmas returns to Luke’s house in full, with the brothers celebrating alongside their girlfriends Susie, Sophie, and Fiona. Barbara, Thomas, and Hernandez—who has since befriended the brothers—join the celebration, marking a new sense of connection and shared joy. The house is filled with laughter, warmth, and a sense of unity that grew out of a challenging, snow-filled Christmas that tested both their patience and their hearts. In the end, the family finds its rhythm not by erasing the past but by embracing it, learning to lean on one another, and opening their lives to the people who came into their home to help—and to stay.
