Willow Creek, Alaska, is facing economic hardship after the town’s main industry, the cannery, shuts down and many residents find themselves out of work. Ray John Schneider and Pete Tom Wopat are brothers who drive trucks for a living; they share the same trade, but their personalities are as different as night and day, which adds a quiet tension to their journey together.

Pete [Tom Wopat] is trying to figure out how to handle his rebellious son Michael [Zachary Ansley], who resents his father’s constant time on the road. At the same time, Ray [John Schneider] wrestles with his own troubles, including a pregnant wife who had left Pete for him in the past, adding a layer of complexity to their bond.

Their old friend Al Bensinger [Hoyt Axton] hires them to deliver Christmas presents and a very big surprise from California to his hometown of Willow Creek. The brothers soon realize they will need to rely on one another more than they expected. Along the way, they quarrel and get caught in a blizzard, and Ray’s wife goes into labor. As the baby arrives, the brothers find common ground and reconcile, arriving in town to a welcome by a crowd of residents.

Earlier in the film, it’s revealed that Ray is a champion chili cooker, and the big surprise is that Al has loaded the truck with enough supplies to reopen the cannery and start chili production again. Ray and his wife decide to stay in the small town and help the cannery get back on its feet. Pete is told that Al has made him a partner in their company, ensuring he won’t have to drive a truck anymore, and this partnership brings the brothers closer as they plan a steadier future.
