Now stationed in a fire lookout tower in Montana's Park County, she is burdened by grief and descends into a cycle of depression, trying to drown her sorrows through perilous acts linked to smoke jumping.
Meanwhile, Owen Casserly, played by Jake Weber, is a forensic accountant who becomes entangled in a dangerous situation when he uncovers the suspicious deaths of his boss, a district attorney, and his family, which he believes to be a result of a contracted killing. Fearing for his life and that of his son, Connor, portrayed by Finn Little, Owen goes on the run, seeking refuge with his brother-in-law, Ethan Sawyer, a Deputy Sheriff. In a call to Ethan, Owen requests help in gathering media attention to expose his findings, all while Ethan remains concerned about Hannah's fragile emotional state.
