Based on a true story, director John G. Avildsen—known for Save the Tiger and Joe—offers a tender portrait of Roger Pitman, a petty thief who becomes a police informant, using bait money to trap other criminals. After stealing part of the cash, he flees to Miami Beach, only to live in constant fear of the crooks he set up and the authorities, struggling to regain his respectability.
