Michael Flaherty (Craig Wasson), an American Vietnam veteran of Irish descent, travels back to Belfast to support his grandfather Seamus (Sterling Hayden). He quickly discovers he is not as welcome in his ancestral home as he expected, and becomes the focus of an IRA assassination scheme meant to tarnish British forces and stir wealthy American donors.
