The Healing

Manang Elsa unknowingly resurrected a dead man named Dario during her healing session. When she cured Odong, Dario was collapsed and apparently dead in the room, but her healing power brought him back to life. The life force used to resurrect him became the source of the curse that subsequently afflicts everyone she healed.

The timeline notes that a man was carried inside after collapsing at the healing clinic, hinting at Dario's presence.

Dario was a man previously killed by Melchor (Elsa's husband). When Elsa unknowingly healed him while he was dead, she used the life force of the healed to resurrect him. Melchor explains that the curse can only be broken by killing Dario again, as he is the source of the supernatural manifestations feeding on those she cured.

Everyone Elsa healed became possessed by doppelgangers, supernatural alter-egos that emerged from the curse. These doppelgangers compelled the healed individuals to commit violent acts, including murder and suicide. Chona stabbed a bystander and killed herself, Dodi went on a killing spree at a gym, Greta murdered her husband and sons before hanging herself, and Alma went on a killing spree before self-immolation.

The party celebrating the healings marks the peak of hope before the rapid descent into violence.

The doppelgangers are supernatural entities that manifest as exact copies of the people Elsa healed. They represent the dark, cursed alter-egos of the cured individuals. These doppelgangers appear physically and commit violent acts, eventually forcing the original people to also become violent as the curse consumes them.

After Elsa cured her goiter, Chona became possessed by her doppelganger. At Ding's wedding reception, Chona went home instead of staying, and was later found dead having stabbed a bystander and slashed her own neck. Her violent behavior was triggered by the curse taking hold of her through the doppelganger.

Greta was healed of a lump by Elsa, but like the others, she became possessed by her doppelganger. That night at her home, Greta twisted her own neck backward, then stabbed her husband Ruben and harmed her sons before hanging herself. The curse drove her to commit familial violence against her own family.

Dodi was one of Elsa's patients who received healing. Following the pattern of all the healed individuals, he became possessed by his doppelganger and went on a killing spree at a gym, holding his partner hostage before killing himself with broken glass. This was the first major incident that made the community realize the healing had unleashed something sinister.

At Chona's wake, Rex tells Seth that Chona had seen a crow in her dream before her death. This crow imagery represents the curse's spiritual manifestation. However, Seth later learns from her father that he did not dream of a crow but had a wet dream, reframing the supernatural elements as physical rather than mystical.

Seth visits Dario in prison and attempts to poison him to end the curse. Dario reveals he is a transformed entity and warns that the cured will remain possessed unless he is killed again. Meanwhile, at the safe house during Cookie's birthday party, Melchor shoots Dario in prison. A crow falls as Dario dies, and the doppelgangers vanish, ending the curse with Cookie finally awakening.

Cita moved Cacai (who had been cured of blindness by Elsa) to a Daoist temple for safety. However, Cacai became possessed by her doppelganger and massacred the monks with a ceremonial axe before impaling herself on a flagpole. This showed that no location was safe from the curse's reach.

Cookie is Seth's half-sister and was taken to Elsa for healing of her glomerulonephritis. Because she was healed by Elsa, she also became vulnerable to the curse and her doppelganger. During the birthday party at the safe house, Cookie's doppelganger attacks her, but the curse ends when Melchor kills Dario just as the attack occurs, allowing Cookie to be revived.

Elsa was unaware that Dario was dead when she performed the healing. Melchor reveals that Dario was killed by Melchor himself, and when Elsa healed him, she unknowingly resurrected him. Dario collapsed at the moment Seth and Odong left the healing session, making it appear as if he simply fell ill rather than was being brought back from death.

Ding was healed of his psoriasis by Elsa at the party. Like the other healed individuals, he became possessed by his doppelganger. The next day, during a police raid on a sex den, Ding went on a shooting spree and was shot by his colleagues. This incident further escalated the community's awareness of the curse spreading through the healed people.
