In the 1960s, rebellious Jacquie abandons her family to travel France with itinerant guitarist Pierre. Their brief romance ends when Pierre leaves, and she sleeps with a passing student. Poor and disillusioned, she returns home, refusing her sister's domestic path. While searching for work, Jacquie pursues a string of affairs with men from varied backgrounds, hoping one will meet her expectations.
