The Contractor

Javier Reyes is actually Jorge Reyes, whose son Omar was a defendant in a murder case that Paul Chase prosecuted. Omar died in a prison mass assault after being convicted, and Reyes holds Paul responsible for his son's death. This is why he specifically targeted the Chase family for revenge.

The film opens with a man insisting he acted to protect his girlfriend, hinting at a case involving a defendant who claimed innocence.

Reyes planted doctored evidence to make Paul appear unfaithful, including a manipulated restaurant receipt and edited phone records showing suspicious late-night calls. He also sent Liz a photo of Paul's secretary touching her neck, which he used to convince Liz that her husband was having an affair.

Early in the film, Reyes is shown secretly photographing the family and tapping their calls, indicating his surveillance began before the framing started.

McKenzie lied to her parents about attending a friend's party, instead going to meet her boyfriend Chris. When her phone was left in Chris's car, she had no way to contact her family. Reyes took advantage of this absence to abduct her at gunpoint.

Earlier in the film, McKenzie is shown lying about her whereabouts, creating the opportunity that Reyes exploits for kidnapping.

During the final confrontation, after Paul grabbed Reyes' gun to create a diversion allowing Liz and McKenzie to escape, Liz and Reyes engaged in a brutal struggle. Liz eventually managed to seize the firearm and shot Reyes dead, ending the threat.

The earlier scene where Liz knocks Reyes unconscious with a spade demonstrates her growing willingness to fight back against her attacker.

Working as their contractor, Reyes had direct access to the Chase home. He used this position to secretly photograph the family and tap their phone calls. Even after being fired by Paul, Reyes continued his surveillance from a distance, never stopping his obsessive monitoring.

The initial scene of Reyes arriving at the property shows him observing the home with quiet efficiency, foreshadowing his true predatory intentions.
