In 2017, an investigation was launched into a criminal case known as the “Serebrennikov case,” involving a renowned director and five others. They were accused of embezzling over one hundred million rubles intended for theatrical productions, potentially facing ten years in prison. Journalists Katerina Gordeeva and Roman Super delved into the complex situation, interviewing those within the theater world, examining financial records, and communicating with key figures. The film explores how accolades and positive reviews transformed into arrests, documenting the legal proceedings along the way.
