Timeline
After the events in the Balkans, Kara Ben‑Nemsi, known as Karl the German, receives a firman—a valuable passport—from the Ottoman padishah before heading into Kurdistan. There he discovers Achmed El Corda, son of the Hadedhin Bedouin sheikh Mohammed Emin, has been captured by the Turkish governor of Mosul for defying a water seizure by Turkish troops. Kara takes charge of the rescue.
