In summer 1989, Katja, a young mother, lives under the Stasi’s grip. After her brother is killed trying to cross the Wall and her partner Andreas returns from a failed escape badly wounded, she learns their son Sven lives in the West. Katja attempts a risky flight via Hungary‑Austria, is arrested and endures harsh interrogation by officer Bert Schäfer as the GDR rushes toward the revolutionary autumn of 1989, a period that will reshape her family’s fate.
