Serafina, Pulcinella and Isabella are three passionate performers of a 17th‑century French travelling troupe, leaving broken hearts in their wake. Based on Théophile Gautier’s 1863 novel Le Capitaine Fracasse, the plot brings them to the castle of the scruffy Baron de Sigognac, who is enthralled by the middle‑aged beauty Serafina. The baron joins the troupe, while Serafina urges him to court the youngest member, the newly bereaved Isabella.
