The Terminal

Viktor Navorski lands at JFK International Airport, only to be informed that he cannot enter the United States. A revolution back in his home country, Krakozhia, has resulted in its non-recognition by the U.S., leaving Viktor in a precarious situation.

With no means to return home, Viktor finds himself living in the terminal. He starts collecting abandoned baggage trolleys to earn a little money, but this venture is quickly halted by Frank Dixon, the Head of Customs and Border Protection.

During his time at the terminal, Viktor befriends Enrique, a catering car driver. They bond over their shared experiences, and Viktor uses his insights to help Enrique pursue a romantic interest, Dolores, a Customs officer.

Viktor encounters the charming flight attendant Amelia Warren, who shows a liking for him. She invites Viktor to dinner, but he insists on first securing money to treat her properly, showcasing his respectful demeanor.

In a bid to support himself, Viktor manages to find an unregistered job as a construction worker at the airport, earning $19 an hour. This provides him with a glimmer of hope and a means to develop his new life at the terminal.

Viktor faces a dilemma when he is asked to assist a man in smuggling medication for his ill father. Cleverly, Viktor interprets the medication as something else, showcasing his resourcefulness while increasing tension with Dixon.

Frank Dixon becomes increasingly hostile toward Viktor, as he threatens to remove him from the terminal to secure his own promotion. Viktor's presence disrupts his plans, magnifying the conflict between the two characters.

As time goes on, Amelia shares her complicated situation with Viktor, revealing her relationship with a married government official who has been helping them. This revelation leaves Viktor heartbroken and questioning his feelings for Amelia.

Dixon resorts to blackmail, threatening Viktor's friends if he does not comply with his orders to return to Krakozhia. This moment creates tense emotions as Viktor grapples with the possible consequences of his actions.

Seizing a chance to escape the confines of the terminal, Viktor goes out into the city with the goal of fulfilling his dream to meet Benny Golson. This spontaneous decision signifies a turning point in Viktor's journey.

Before venturing out, Viktor shares heartfelt goodbyes with the airport staff who have become his friends. Their support reinforces the bonds he made during his unexpected stay at the airport.

As Viktor heads to the jazz performance, he unexpectedly runs into Amelia. Their brief exchange is filled with bittersweet emotions, highlighting the depth of their connection despite the circumstances.

Viktor attends Benny Golson's jazz performance, fulfilling his long-held dream. He finally obtains the coveted autograph he desired, completing a significant collection for his father.

As Viktor leaves the venue, he reflects on his journey and growth throughout his time in the terminal. With a renewed sense of hope, he conveys to a cab driver that he is now ready to go home.
