Geralt’s extensive journey spans over decades, while Ciri’s experience occurs within weeks, providing a contrasting yet interconnected framework to this mysterious narrative.

The premiere episode, “The End’s Beginning,” opens with Geralt of Rivia, a skilled witcher, as he defeats a kikimora—a terrifying, spider-like creature. Despite their supernatural abilities and long lifespans, witchers like Geralt are often met with disdain from the societies they serve. Mounted on his trusty horse Roach, he travels to the village of Blaviken, intending to claim his bounty for the defeated kikimora.

Upon arrival at the local tavern, Geralt encounters Renfri, a woman whose allure is matched only by her mysterious persona. As he maneuvers through the intricate web of relationships and motives in Blaviken, he is confronted by Stregobor, a reclusive wizard who implores Geralt to take his life. Stregobor’s rationale stems from the fear that Renfri, prophesied to bring about calamity due to her ill-fated birth, poses a grave threat to the town.

However, Geralt soon comes to realize that Renfri is far from a straightforward villain. Instead, she embodies a richly layered character burdened by a traumatic history marked by survival and revenge against Stregobor, whose servant brutally attacked her owing to the dark omens surrounding her origin. As Geralt wades deeper into this ethical quagmire, he embarks on a heartfelt exploration of morality’s duality, ultimately rebuffing Stregobor’s request. Instead of falling in line with what he perceives to be evil, Geralt offers Renfri a path toward redemption, urging her to leave Blaviken behind in search of peace.

Their moment of connection is fleeting when Geralt is jolted awake by a prophetic dream, in which Renfri cryptically tells him that his fate lies with “the girl in the woods.” As daylight breaks, she disappears, leaving Geralt to reflect on the mysteries that surround him and his own destiny.

Later, Geralt pursues Renfri through Blaviken, determined to thwart her vendetta against innocent lives. However, his efforts are met with fierce opposition from her loyal followers. His unwavering resolve leads to a violent clash, culminating in the demise of Renfri’s henchmen, with Geralt’s instinct to protect the innocent overriding his desire for peace. As Renfri collapses, she whispers yet another prophecy, hinting that the enigmatic girl from the woods is his inevitable fate. Regrettably, the townsfolk, inflamed by Stregobor’s resentful rhetoric, chase Geralt out of Blaviken despite his intentions for heroism.

Meanwhile, far from this turmoil, we meet Ciri, the young princess of Cintra, under the watchful eyes of her formidable grandmother, Calanthe, and step-grandfather Eist. With the Nilfgaard army tightening its grip on their kingdom, Calanthe exudes confidence in their ultimate triumph. However, her bravado is short-lived as the invading forces wreak havoc, leaving her grievously injured as she struggles to reach the royal castle’s safety. In a heartbreaking moment, Calanthe charges Ciri with a weighty responsibility: to find Geralt, the witcher destined to play a crucial role in her future.

Fleeing through secret passages, Ciri finds herself navigating the brutal realities of a war-torn land. Her grandmother’s final command looms over her as the royal family faces a tragic demise, choosing death over the horrors of their enemies. Alone and terrified as her protectors fall, Ciri narrowly escapes the Nilfgaardian grip when Commander Cahir captures her just beyond the borders of their crumbling kingdom. As she struggles for freedom, her primal instincts awaken, resulting in a supernatural scream that ruptures the earth beneath her. Having evaded her captors, Ciri vanishes into the depths of the ominous woods, forever altered by the violence she has endured.

With Geralt moving resolutely through the landscape post-Blaviken, he becomes embroiled in another predicament: a demon supposedly responsible for a town’s missing provisions. Unlike the locals, Geralt is intent on resolving the issue peacefully rather than slaying the supposed menace.

In an unexpected twist, the charismatic minstrel Jaskier joins Geralt’s quest, yearning to document his adventures for inspiration. Initially reluctant, Geralt relents, warning the ambitious bard that demons are but figments of folklore.

As they journey deeper, they encounter Torque the Sylvan, whose true nature leads Geralt to exercise mercy instead of enforcing violence. Unfortunately, fate intervenes, and they are captured, ultimately discovering influential guests such as Filavandrel, the elven king, and his soldier amid impending conflict between humans and elves.

Navigating this complex reality, Geralt urges Filavandrel to seek peace rather than vengeance, aiming to reshape their tension-laden fate. Although Geralt’s compassionate nature shines, Jaskier’s exuberant storytelling back home becomes the source of Geralt’s legendary status, culminating in a tale hefty with embellishments and personal triumphs, blurring the lines of truth and myth.

Meanwhile, the saga of Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) juxtaposes Geralt and Ciri’s narratives. As she navigates the treacherous dynamics of an abusive family, Yennefer’s desperate quest for control ultimately unveils her latent powers. When Tissaia arrives to whisk her away from her miseries into a world of magic, Yennefer embarks on a transformative journey amidst lessons of emotional control and self-discovery.

Yet, unbeknownst to her, the path of destiny intertwines her fate with Geralt’s, setting the stage for a rich saga brimming with intertwining destinies, battles against jealousy and insecurity, as well as the unyielding pursuit of personal agency within a darkly enchanting world.
