The ending of The Strays reveals that Neve, formerly Cheryl, has been hiding her true identity and past all along. Her earlier claim that she abandoned her children to escape abuse is challenged, suggesting her reasons were more about hiding from her true self and societal judgment. Her final act of leaving signifies the cycle restarting—trauma, shame, and concealment will continue to influence her children, especially Mary and Sebastian, who are left to inherit the consequences of her choices.
