Ben and Katie Jordan, married for 15 years, share a life that appears picture-perfect, complete with two children, Erin and Josh, a lovely home, and a comfortable lifestyle. However, beneath this facade lies a disintegrating relationship, marked by an overwhelming dissatisfaction that they conceal from their children, leading to a daily performance of normalcy.
Their love story began in the realm of comedy, where they first crossed paths. Reflecting on their journey, Katie recalls the intensity of their arguments, eventually noting how they shifted from heated disputes to a silence that spoke volumes. As summer approaches, they decide to send their kids off to camp and take a trial separation, which prompts both of them to explore what originally drew them together.
Engaging with their respective social circles, they share tales of relationship woes with friends—except for the Jordans, who maintain a more reserved demeanor. Ben reminisces about a shallow conversation with Katie, realizing how disconnected they’ve become despite their history.

A few days later, Katie reaches out regarding mundane tasks and invites him for dinner, creating an atmosphere charged with tension yet filled with opportunity. While Ben seeks reconciliation, Katie firmly believes in addressing their deep-rooted problems first, leading to a confrontation where she exits in frustration.
When they attend Parents’ Day at camp, Ben struggles with his emotions but masks them, reflecting on the joy and pain of parenthood. Later, Erin sneaks into their room, prompting Ben to recall a pivotal trip to Italy, a time when marital bliss felt tangible, but those old habits returned once they were back home.
The couple’s paths diverge as Katie enrolls in a Thai cooking class with a divorced man, and Ben finds himself at dinner with another couple. In the aftermath of an emotional breakdown, he gains clarity about Katie’s feelings, prompting a rush home only to find her cooking dinner with the divorced man.
As they prepare to reunite with their children, they agree on a thoughtful dinner to discuss their future. En route, A flood of memories, both joyful and painful, washes over Katie, culminating in tears upon seeing their kids. They deliberate on the chosen restaurant, leading to a profound discussion about the complexities of love—how it encompasses both the good and the bad—ultimately deciding to stay together.
