The Salesman

Emad and Rana are a married couple who work in the theatre, currently starring in a production of Death of a Salesman with Emad as Willy Loman and Rana as Linda. In addition to acting, Emad is a popular instructor at a local school, where the students joke about him being a 'salesman.' Their lives blend stage work with everyday concerns as they balance fame, craft, and family.

One night, their apartment building collapses and they flee with the other residents. Babak, a fellow actor, secures another apartment for them in a place where the previous tenant had only just moved out. They move in and place the former owner's belongings outside, trying to make the space usable.

The couple moves into the new apartment and begins to settle in, placing the previous owner's belongings outside. The space feels borrowed and unsettled, foreshadowing the disturbance to come.

One night Rana is home alone and begins bathing; when Emad returns, he finds she is missing and the bathroom is covered with blood. He rushes to the hospital, where neighbours inform him about his wife's condition and urge him to secure the apartment by changing the locks.

Rana's trauma surfaces as she returns home and resists involving the police. She refuses to bathe and is brought to tears during a performance, breaking down on stage as she cannot shake off what happened.

Emad discovers evidence the assault was not an accident: the culprit left his car keys behind, which Emad traces to a pickup parked outside. The attacker also left a mobile phone and money that Rana had used, suggesting a connection between the intrusion and her daily life.

Frustrated and desperate for answers, Emad blames Babak for hiding the truth about the former tenant. During a performance, he lashes out at Babak's character Charley, calling him a degenerate, a line that hints at his growing anger even if it isn't in Miller's script.

Seeking more concrete clues, Emad turns to a student whose father used to work for the police. The student helps trace the truck to a man named Majid, and Emad pretends to need a mover to lure Majid to their now empty old apartment.

Majid's prospective father-in-law arrives instead of Majid, and gradually it becomes clear the older man was the intruder. He denies attacking Rana, implying that he only startled her.

Emad calls the old man's family to the apartment and locks him in a small room to force a confrontation about his true character. Rana learns what Emad plans and says that revenge could end their marriage if he pursues it.

The old man's family arrives, thinking they have been summoned for a medical emergency and thanking Emad for saving a life. Before they leave, Emad insists on settling his account with the old man in private and returns the money he had left behind.

Unseen by the family, Emad slaps the old man, who collapses as they are leaving and an ambulance is called. Rana and Emad then return to the theatre together.

Back at the theatre, the couple continues to perform, trying to resume life after the ordeal. They face an uncertain future together, their bond tested but enduring as they move forward.
