The Return of Mr. Moto

Mr. Moto is enlisted by British intelligence to look into a conspiracy targeting a major oil company operating in Iran. He begins his investigation by meeting key contacts and gathering intelligence on potential threats. The plot involves sabotage and political intrigue that threaten international oil operations.

Mr. Moto meets his friend, American oil executive Russell McAllister, at a restaurant. McAllister explains that his company's operations are under threat from sabotage, and the Shahrdar of Wadi is considering revoking their lease. The meeting establishes the stakes of the conspiracy.

As Moto and McAllister leave the restaurant, McAllister is shot in a drive-by shooting, killing him instantly. The assassin, identified as 'Dargo' Engle, and his driver, Coburn, pursue Moto in a violent chase. Moto is slightly injured but manages to evade his attackers.

Moto escapes from the attackers and enters an abandoned house where he defeats Coburn during a confrontation. Coburn reveals that he works for someone named 'Dargo' Engle,' leading Moto to suspect a deeper conspiracy. Coburn attempts to escape but is killed by Engle for cowardice.

The next day, Moto meets with Charles Ginelli from Interpol. Together, they identify 'Dargo' Engle as Helmut Engle, a former SS officer wanted for war crimes. Moto vows to find and eliminate Engle in retaliation for McAllister's death.

Engle is furious when his employers reprimand him for failing to kill Moto. He vows to complete his mission and eliminate Moto permanently. Meanwhile, he is under pressure from those funding the conspiracy to succeed in their plans.

Moto learns about an upcoming summit of oil executives and diplomats at his residence, which is targeted by the conspiracy. He collaborates with MI5 agent Jonathan Westering and shares critical information to prevent further sabotage. An impostor posing as Inspector Halliday captures Moto and introduces him to Wasir Hussein, a conspiracy leader.

Moto is tortured by Engle and thrown into the Thames with a brick tied to him. He manages to escape. Later, he is betrayed and captured by Hussein’s men but ultimately receives help from the real Inspector Halliday. The conspiracy leader, Hussein, is revealed to be a major threat.

Moto receives a codebook from American oil executive David Lennox, which helps him decode a cryptogram linked to the conspiracy. He then advises Powell, Lennox’s lover posing as his secretary, to claim vital information during the summit, aiming to unsettle Hussein and his plans.

During the summit, Moto, disguised as a Japanese diplomat, persuades the Shahrdar to retain McAllister’s lease instead of awarding it to Hussein’s company. Hussein, unnerved by the revelations, orders Engle to kidnap Powell. Moto confronts and kills Engle at the Arabian Nights restaurant.

Engle reveals before dying that McAllister had been working with Hussein but was killed for greed. Moto cracks the cryptogram and exposes Hussein as the conspiracy leader, revealing his involvement in the plot. Westering arrives to congratulate Moto on dismantling the conspiracy.

With the conspiracy unraveled, Moto exposes Hussein’s role as the mastermind. Westering’s complicity is also revealed, leading to their downfall. The threat to the oil operations is neutralized, and the plot against the company is thwarted.

In the end, Moto invites Powell to spend the weekend with him, signaling a moment of personal closure after the dangerous mission. The threat has been eliminated, and peace is restored at the conclusion of the story.
