Tony Mareda, Jr., a former Olympic athlete and world-renowned private detective, is driving across the country when mobsters close in on him. He plunges into the sleepy backwater town of Beamsville and slips into the local drive-in theater, but his pursuers follow. As he fights the hit men among the parked cars, a pink meteor streaks overhead and crashes in the nearby woods.

That meteor’s spectacular arrival pulls the drive-in crowd outside, where the townspeople hurry to inspect the strange glow. As the young couples search the woods, the women begin to hear a ringing from the glowing pink rock and fall under its spell, turning into lusty nymphomaniacs who will guard the meteor by drawing men toward it. One of the few who remains unaffected is the local TV weatherman, Clip Bacardi, who has discovered a small fragment of the meteor, though he is so engrossed by it that he hardly notices his girlfriend, Mary Ann Kowalski, trying to coax him.

The next morning, the crater sits empty, and the men who went hunting for it are found wandering in catatonia through the woods. Beamsville’s mayor, facing a challenge from Mary Ann Kowalski in the upcoming election, orders the town deputy to seek help from Tony Mareda, Jr. to uncover what happened to the men. When Clip goes on the air that evening with his fragment, the sound it emits turns all the women watching into the meteor’s devoted servants. Learning of the investigation, the women seduce a key witness and, under Mary Ann’s direction, begin to seize control of the town.

Clip stumbles into the plot and barely escapes the women’s takeover of the television station. He informs the mayor, and the men form a posse to track down the meteor. In the woods, Clip encounters a scantily clad Mary Ann who nearly incapacitates him, but Tony Mareda, Jr. manages to subdue her with chloroform. After placing her in the town jail, Tony and Clip push further into the woods to follow the meteor to a cave, where they narrowly dodge a group of worshippers who arrive to pay homage to it. A roadblock foils their attempt to flee to the next town, so they return to Beamsville to find the women’s takeover complete and the remaining men wandering in dazed stupor.

Clip experiments with the meteor’s fragment in an effort to learn how to defeat it, but the fumes trap him when the fragment catches fire. Tony is knocked unconscious by a group of women who surge through the town in a pink Sherman tank, destroying the jail from which he tries to escape.

When Tony comes to, he’s inside the cave again, awakened by [Mary Ann Kowalski], who reveals that the meteor, which she calls “Betty,” has chosen him to father its offspring. As the meteor draws Tony toward it, the cave wall collapses and floods the chamber—a weakness the pair must exploit. The rock is swept out of the cave and, with [Mary Ann Kowalski] resisting the meteor after seeing Clip attacked, the two of them join forces to push the pulsating rock into the town lake. The meteor’s destruction breaks the spell, and the women regain their senses, returning Beamsville to normal as the town’s men awaken from their daze.

Q1

Why do the women in Beamsville fall under the meteor's spell?

A.

The pink meteor emits a ringing sound that affects women specifically. When they hear this sound, they become hypnotically devoted to protecting the meteor. The ringing appears to act as an alien frequency that overwhelms their will, turning them intolustful guardians who use seduction to draw men toward the meteor and keep them away from discovering its location.

The meteor's arrival at the drive-in theater draws crowds outward, allowing the women to approach the glowing rock in the woods where they first hear the ringing.

Q2

What causes the men to end up in catatonic states?

A.

The men who went searching for the meteor in the woods were exposed to its influence and wandered back in a dazed, catatonic state. The exact mechanism isn't fully explained, but it appears the meteor's power can mentally incapacitate men who get too close to it, leaving them unable to function or care for themselves.

The women who fall under the spell actively protect the meteor by drawing men away from danger, suggesting the meteor's effect on men differs from its effect on women.

Q3

Why does Mary Ann become the leader of the meteor-worshipping women?

A.

Mary Ann Kowalski emerges as the leader because she was already a politically ambitious figure in Beamsville, she's running against the mayor in the upcoming election. Her natural leadership qualities and organizational skills make her the obvious choice to coordinate the women's takeover of the town. Once under the meteor's thrall, she directs the seduction of key witnesses and orchestrates the town's transformation into a matriarchal outpost centered around the meteor.

The mayor mentions Mary Ann as his political challenger, establishing her ambition and influence in Beamsville before the meteor even crashes.

Q4

What is "Betty" and why does the meteor want Tony to father its offspring?

A.

Betty is the nickname Mary Ann gives to the pulsating pink meteor. When Tony is captured and brought to the cave, Mary Ann reveals that the meteor has chosen him, specifically as a former Olympic athlete, to father its offspring. This appears to be the meteor's reproductive purpose: using the most physically capable human male available to propagate its kind. The alien entity wants Tony to impregnate one of the women while under its spell.

The meteor's primary goal appears to be perpetuating itself, with the women acting as vessels to protect and eventually reproduce with the rock.

Q5

What happens to Clip after he experiments with the meteor fragment?

A.

Clip Bacardi, the weatherman, discovers a fragment of the meteor and becomes so entranced by it that he neglects his girlfriend Mary Ann. When he broadcasts the fragment on television, the sound it emits turns every woman watching into a meteor follower. Later, when Clip tries to experiment with the fragment to find its weakness, it catches fire and releases fumes that trap him, demonstrating that the meteor fragment is volatile and dangerous when heated or agitated.

Clip's early fascination with the fragment foreshadows both its power over women and its destructive potential when mishandled.

Q6

Why do the women use a pink Sherman tank to attack Tony?

A.

The women commandeer a pink Sherman tank, likely from the National Guard armory, to completely subdue Tony and eliminate the jail as a holding facility for Mary Ann. The tank allows them to destroy the jail walls with heavy firepower, freeing Mary Ann and creating chaos in the town. The choice of a military vehicle reflects the escalating, extreme measures the meteor-controlled women take to protect their territory and eliminate resistance.

By this point, the women's takeover is nearly complete, and they have access to town resources and armaments.

Q7

How does Tony manage to subdue Mary Ann in the woods?

A.

When Clip encounters Mary Ann in the woods and nearly gets overpowered by her, Tony arrives and uses chloroform to knock her unconscious. He then places her in the town jail to prevent her from continuing to lead the women's resistance. This is one of the few moments where the male protagonists successfully neutralize one of the meteor-controlled women using conventional methods.

The chloroform method works temporarily, but Mary Ann eventually breaks free when the tank destroys the jail.

Q8

What weakness does the meteor have and how is it finally destroyed?

A.

The meteor is vulnerable to water. When the cave wall collapses and floods the chamber, Tony and Mary Ann discover that the pulsating rock cannot survive sustained water exposure. Working together, Tony still drawn toward the meteor but Mary Ann now resisting its influence after witnessing Clip being attacked, they push the rock into the town lake. The water washes away its power, breaking the spell over all the women and restoring the men to consciousness.

The cave flooding is triggered by the wall collapse, which becomes the accidental key to discovering the meteor's weakness.

Q9

Why does the meteor's sound only affect women?

A.

The meteor's ringing frequency appears to target women specifically, though the movie doesn't explain the science behind this gender-specific effect. The sound transforms women into devoted servants who protect the meteor through seduction and manipulation. Men, when exposed to the meteor or its fragments, either become catatonic, like the hunters in the woods, or get drawn toward it through the women's influence, rather than being directly controlled by the sound itself.

The meteor's purpose seems to be reproduction through women, which explains why the alien frequency targets females exclusively.

Q10

What happens to the meteor fragment after the meteor is destroyed?

A.

The meteor fragment that Clip was experimenting with presumably loses its power once the main meteor is destroyed and its spell is broken. Since the fragment was the source of the broadcast that turned women into followers, its destruction or deactivation would be part of the overall restoration of normalcy in Beamsville. The movie doesn't explicitly show what happens to the fragment, but with the meteor's power broken, its influence would end.

Clip's fragment experiments earlier demonstrated the meteor's power was concentrated in the rock itself, suggesting fragments would be neutralized along with the main body.
