The Offering

An old man conducts a ritual in a hidden home, slaughtering a chicken and hurriedly spreading ash in a circle. His sickly wife pleads with him to stop, but he persists, reading from a dark book as letters bleed from the pages. The ritual ends in tragedy: he steps outside the circle, swallows a dark smoke, and stabs himself; the demon Abyzou is released and cannot be subdued by the amulet.

Art and his pregnant wife Claire travel to Brooklyn to visit his father, Saul, who runs a Hasidic funeral home. Art's real motive is to persuade Saul to mortgage his house to shore up his faltering real estate business. Saul tries to be welcoming while balancing family duties and faith in his community.

Art volunteers to help with the recently arrived suicide body of Yosille in the mortuary basement. While preparing the body, the amulet around Yosille's neck falls through a drain, releasing the demon Abyzou. The demon immediately begins haunting Claire, casting a pall over the visit.

Saul grows suspicious after discovering Art's money problems and his plan to secure a mortgage. He calls Reb Chayim to ask about the inscription and the binding spell associated with the amulet. Chayim dismisses its importance because no amulet was found.

Art and Heimish go to pick up another body, Sarah Scheindel, a missing girl from the community. Heimish exposes Art's financial troubles to Saul and Claire, publicly undermining Art. Claire confronts Art, and he confesses that his loss of faith followed his mother's death.

That night, the demon attacks in the mortuary and kills Saul. Art wakes to mourners praying around the body, and Heimish blames Art for a broken heart while handing him Saul's unsigned paperwork. Claire and Art struggle to process the sudden tragedy.

During the funeral, Art and Claire experience disturbing visions; Claire sees Sarah Scheindel, and Art sleepwalks and draws a sigil. He wakes on a carpet, thinking it was a dream. The burial process now requires police clearance for Yosille, or a next-of-kin signature, complicating the burial.

Art goes to Yosille's house to search for clues and finds a video revealing Yosille tried to conjure Martiel, archangel of life, to resurrect his dead wife Aida. He used Sarah as the vessel, causing her death and summoning Abyzou instead. This discovery links the haunting to Yosille's attempted ritual.

Aida arrives in Claire's life, claiming she wants to see Art's body. Claire tells her the husband is in Yosille's body, and Aida burns Yosille's body, releasing Abyzou. Art rushes to rescue Claire but is unable to prevent her kidnapping.

Art and Heimish enlist Reb Chayim for help after seeing the sigil. They learn Abyzou gains strength when a child steps into the circle, and that the ritual requires binding the demon into a body for it to work. Chayim explains the steps and warns of the dangers.

Abyzou murders Chayim, prompting Art and Heimish to begin the binding ritual. Heimish warns Art not to step outside the circle, but the demon drags Art's wife toward a high window. Art completes the inscription and asks Heimish to stab him with the inscribed knife to force the demon into his body.

Heimish stabs Art, and Art dies as the circle collapses and the amulet is missing. Claire wakes under a table and rushes toward the sigil, only to find Abyzou masquerading as Art, seizing her. Abyzou completes her takeover, leaving Claire in mortal danger.
