The Offering

Yosille attempted to summon Martiel, the archangel of life, to resurrect his dead wife Aida. He used a young girl named Sarah Scheindel as a conduit for the ritual, believing she could serve as a vessel to bring his wife back to life.

The prologue shows Yosille's wife appearing at the door and begging him to stop the ritual, hinting at the tragedy to come.

While Art was preparing Yosille's body in the mortuary basement, the amulet around Yosille's neck slipped through a drain. The amulet had been binding the demon, so when it fell through, Abyzou was released into the funeral home.

The prologue shows the old man struggling with the amulet, unable to remove it as the demon tries to break free.

Reb Chayim explained that the binding ritual could trap Abyzou inside a living body. The ritual required drawing a sigil circle, staying inside it, and using an inscribed knife to complete the binding. The demon grows stronger when a child enters the circle, making the timing critical.

Saul had earlier asked Reb Chayim about the inscription, but Chayim dismissed its importance since no amulet was found.

Art left the circle because he saw Claire being dragged toward a high window by the demon. He abandoned the ritual's safety to rescue his wife, which broke the protective boundary and allowed Abyzou to attack more freely.

Heimish had specifically warned Art never to step outside the circle during the binding ritual.

After Art died and the ritual collapsed, Claire woke up under a table and rushed toward the sigil. She discovered that Abyzou had taken Art's form, and the demon seized her, pulling her into the sigil's danger, leaving her possessed or taken by the demon.

Earlier, Aida had visited Claire and warned that if Claire told Art she was in danger, the demon would know.

The amulet was a protective talisman that kept Abyzou bound to Yosille. Without it, the demon could not be contained. During the binding ritual, the absence of the amulet contributed to the ritual's failure, as the demon was too powerful to trap without the missing talisman.

In the prologue, the demon struggles to remove the amulet around Yosille's neck but cannot.

Heimish discovered Art's phone and learned about his financial troubles and his plan to manipulate Saul into signing the mortgage documents. Heimish exposed this to Saul and Claire because he was protective of Saul and wary of Art's true intentions toward the family.

The story establishes Heimish as someone who secretly cares for Saul and works alongside him at the funeral home.

Reb Chayim had warned that without the amulet, the ritual's power would be diminished.

Aida was Yosille's dead wife, whom he desperately wanted to bring back. The ritual was performed specifically to resurrect her. After Yosille's failed attempt summoned Abyzou instead, a figure claiming to be Aida visited Claire, ultimately burning Yosille's body to release the demon fully.

The prologue shows Yosille's sickly wife appearing at the door, presumably Aida trying to stop him.

Art confesses to Claire that his mother's death caused a crisis of faith. This personal tragedy created a rift between him and his father's deeply religious Hasidic community, explaining why he felt disconnected from the family and their beliefs during his visit.

Art's spiritual emptiness contrasts with the strong faith of the Hasidic community he visits.

Reb Chayim explained that Abyzou feeds on and grows stronger when a child enters the ritual circle. This made the situation especially dangerous since Claire was pregnant, and the demon was drawn to her unborn child as a source of power.

This warning becomes critical during the final binding ritual attempt.
