Willis Newton finds himself imprisoned due to a miscarriage of justice. During his time in jail, he learns that money is paramount in gaining respect and status among fellow inmates.

Determined to improve their standing, Willis befriends fellow inmates Slim and Glasscock. Together, they concoct a daring plan to execute a bank robbery in broad daylight.

The trio executes their bank robbery, but things rapidly spiral out of control. Slim is captured during their escape on horseback, while Willis and Glasscock manage to evade capture.

Willis and Glasscock meet with a bank director who expresses interest in purchasing their stolen war bonds. This encounter reveals crucial information about various banks, setting the stage for their criminal enterprise.

With newfound knowledge, Willis and Glasscock embark on a series of nighttime bank heists. They utilize cars for quick escapes, marking the beginning of their criminal careers.

Glasscock showcases his skills by expertly using nitroglycerin to open safes. His proficiency becomes a crucial asset to the Newton gang as they continue their string of robberies.

Fueled by a sense of injustice, Willis convinces his brothers of the righteousness of their actions. He argues that they are merely redistributing wealth from bankers, whom he deems the real criminals.

Facing mounting challenges, the Newton gang relocates their operations to Toronto. They devise a bold plan to rob a cash transport vehicle during daylight to capitalize on their new environment.

Despite careful planning, the Toronto heist encounters unexpected obstacles that force the gang to make a narrow escape. The incident sows seeds of doubt about their criminal lifestyle.

In a bid to abandon crime, Willis invests in an oil well, hoping for a fresh start. Unfortunately, the investment fails, leaving him financially devastated and questioning his life's direction.

Desperation drives Willis back into the criminal world, leading to a planned night-time train robbery. He feels trapped, unable to escape the cycle of crime that has consumed him again.

During the train robbery, Glasscock, previously skilled with nitroglycerin, panics and mistakenly shoots Willis’ brother, Dock Newton, thinking he was a guard. This marks a turning point for the gang.

Willis takes his injured brother to seek medical help, unintentionally revealing their identities to the authorities. This act of loyalty costs them dearly as law enforcement closes in.

Ultimately, all the Newton brothers are arrested following their spree of robberies. The sense of justice that once fueled their crimes now leads to their downfall as they face imprisonment.
