A maintenance worker at the research facility inadvertently causes a catastrophic explosion linked to a sinister clock. This event deepens the intrigue surrounding the renewable energy agenda and heightens Jane's concerns about her safety and the motives of those involved.

The day after the explosion, Frank reunites with Jane at the incident site, where tensions surface due to Jane's new partner, Quentin Hapsburg, an executive at Hexagon Oil. Their encounter hints at unresolved feelings and complicates Frank's pursuit of justice.

Hapsburg narrowly survives a fall from the rooftop, only to be met by an unexpected demise at the jaws of an escaped zoo lion. This twist of fate highlights the absurdity of the chaos surrounding the energy crisis.

In a climactic moment, Frank and Jane team up to disable the nuclear bomb threatening the gala. In a stroke of luck, Frank accidentally triggers the disarm sequence just in time, preventing disaster and showcasing his accidental heroism.

Following the successful thwarting of the terrorist plot, President Bush commends Frank's bravery and offers him a prestigious position. Frank, however, chooses to propose to Jane instead, marking the beginning of a new chapter in their lives filled with love.
