The film follows Nikos Belogiannis, a decorated Greek officer and committed member of the Communist Party, who returns to Greece after years abroad. Upon arrival he is arrested, subjected to a highly publicized trial on charges of spying for the Soviet Union, and ultimately executed, illustrating the brutal anti‑communist repression of the era.
