After assaulting a football referee, train driver Bill (Arthur Askey) is fined £55 and, desperate for cash, steals from the railwaymen’s holiday fund. Knowing he’ll be discovered, he devises a plan to win the lost money by gambling on the United versus City derby, where his son is making his debut, promising a chaotic, unforgettable day.
