Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions! Rikka Version

Yūta spent his junior high years believing he had supernatural powers and calling himself the 'Dark Flame Master.' These elaborate delusions alienated him from his peers and caused him embarrassment. When he enters high school, he desperately wants a fresh start where no one knows about his past, hoping to live a normal life among unfamiliar faces.

Rikka learns about Yūta's past as the 'Dark Flame Master' and sees him as a kindred spirit, someone who once shared her world of delusions. Rather than mocking him or rejecting him, she becomes fascinated because his history validates her own beliefs and makes her feel less alone.

The Far-East Magical Napping Society – Summer Thereof is a club that Yūta helps Rikka create to give her delusions a structured outlet. It becomes a safe space where Rikka and others with similar quirks can freely discuss and act out their fantasy worlds. The club brings together Sanae, Shinka, and Kumin.

Rikka's father died unexpectedly from a terminal illness two years before the story takes place. He was the person she was closest to, and his death devastated her. This loss intensified her reliance on delusions as a coping mechanism, leading her to create fantasy worlds to deal with her grief.

The Ethereal Horizon (不可視境界線, Fukashi Kyōkaisen) is a magical boundary Rikka believes exists and will lead her to her deceased father. It's a delusional concept representing the threshold between the real world and whatever realm she imagines he now inhabits. Her search for it becomes the emotional core of her journey with Yūta.

After losing her father unexpectedly to terminal illness, Rikka developed intense chūnibyō delusions as a psychological defense mechanism. Her fantasies about magical powers and other worlds give her a way to process her grief and maintain an emotional connection to her father, even if only in her imagination.

Although Rikka's quirks often irritate and embarrass Yūta, he recognizes their shared connection through his own past. Rather than rejecting her, he decides to accept her world and support her. His patience and care gradually develop into genuine romantic feelings, making him choose to remain part of her life.

Summer vacation becomes a turning point when Yūta learns about Rikka's father's death, deepening his understanding of her pain. As they search for the Ethereal Horizon together, their bond strengthens and romantic feelings emerge on both sides. The trip forces them to confront her grief while growing closer.

The club includes Sanae Dekomori, an energetic current chūnibyō who fiercely supports Rikka's delusions; Shinka Nibutani, a former chūnibyō who provides skeptical humor and rivalry; and Kumin Tsuyuri, the perpetually sleepy member who balances the group's intensity with relaxation. Each character represents different relationships with delusion.

After deciding to accept Rikka's delusions, Yūta begins tutoring her to help manage her everyday problems. This practical support reflects his commitment to being there for her, not just tolerating her fantasies, but actively helping her navigate real life while she pursues her imaginative world.
