The Lady Vanishes

A motley group of travelers finds themselves stranded in a village hotel due to an avalanche blocking the railway tracks. Among them are two British gentlemen, Caldicott and Charters, who are anxious about missing a cricket Test match.

The hotel fills up with a variety of guests, including Iris, a young woman on her way to get married, Miss Froy, a governess, and Gilbert, a musicologist. Tensions begin to rise as their diverse personalities clash in close quarters.

While enjoying music from a street musician, Miss Froy becomes enamored with the melody. However, no one seems to notice an ominous event as the musician is attacked, foreshadowing the troubles to come.

As passengers prepare to leave for the train, a flowerpot is dropped, mistakenly hitting Iris instead of Miss Froy. After the accident, Iris boards the train but soon loses consciousness.

Upon awakening aboard the train, Iris is alarmed to find Miss Froy has vanished. The other passengers, including the Todhunters and the cricket fans, deny any knowledge of Miss Froy's existence, raising suspicion.

Dr. Egon Hartz suggests that Miss Froy never existed and that Iris, having hit her head, must be hallucinating. Despite his reasoning, Iris is determined that something sinister is at play and vows to find out the truth.

Teaming up with Gilbert, who offers assistance despite their prior disagreements, Iris embarks on a search throughout the train. They question other passengers but find little support in their quest to locate Miss Froy.

After discovering the broken glasses of Miss Froy, Iris and Gilbert realize they're entangled with a magician known as 'The Great Doppo.' A confrontation ensues, but they manage to subdue him temporarily.

Dr. Hartz reveals that they have been served drugged drinks when Iris and Gilbert attempt to confide in him. Realizing the danger they are in, the pair must fight against the drug that is taking hold of them.

In an effort to escape their drugged state, Gilbert executes a daring plan to rescue Miss Froy, who has been disguised as a heavily bandaged patient. They struggle against time and the looming threat of Dr. Hartz.

As the train approaches a junction, Gilbert and Iris discover the train is being set up for a trap. They must work together with the other passengers to counter the forces plotting against them.

The group is confronted by armed soldiers who demand that the passengers disembark. A chaotic standoff erupts, leading to injuries and desperate attempts to protect themselves and find Miss Froy.

As tensions rise, Gilbert and Caldicott decide to confront their captors, leading to a climactic battle of wit and courage. They take a stand against the soldiers while Miss Froy's fate hangs in the balance.

After a frantic escape, Iris and Gilbert race to the Foreign Office, excitedly hoping to reunite with Miss Froy. Their heartfelt connection transforms into a romantic moment as they plan a future together.

Ultimately, Iris and Gilbert discover that Miss Froy is safe and has a crucial message to deliver. Their journey culminates in a joyous reunion, as they finally unveil the melody that connects their fates.
