An alien Soul inhabiting Melanie Stryder's body who is tasked with locating unassimilated humans. She begins with a mission to seize control but gradually develops empathy for humans, sparking internal dialogues with Melanie. Through these conversations, Wanderer learns about loyalty, fear, and love, challenging her initial allegiance to the Souls. Her evolving bond with the human group drives the plot toward cooperation rather than conquest.

Human host Melanie Stryder retains her consciousness despite Wanderer's intrusion, resisting total takeover. Her memories and relationships push Wanderer to question orders and seek help for the human desert refuge. Melanie acts as a moral compass and catalyst for trust between the humans and Wanderer.

An aggressive Soul assigned to locate unassimilated humans. She relentlessly pursues Wanderer and the humans, pressing for results. After being captured, she is removed from her host by Doc's method and sent away to space so that she cannot return.

A wise, rugged leader of the desert human shelter who accepts Wanderer after her escape. He guides the group with caution but openness to new possibilities, including the potential removal of Souls from hosts. His role anchors the human resistance and provides a moral counterpoint to the alien threat.

Ian is a human survivor who forms a close bond with Wanderer, bridging the gap between species. He shows empathy and courage, challenging the fear of outsiders. His relationship with Wanderer becomes a pivotal element in the group's trust and eventual alliance.

Jared Howe is Melanie's boyfriend who initially resists Wanderer as a threat but later engages with her on a personal level. His capacity for forgiveness and willingness to accept the new composite identity demonstrates the possibility of unity.

Jamie is Melanie's brother who travels with Melanie and Wanderer to find Jeb. He becomes ill with a leg infection and is cared for by Wanderer who obtains alien medicine to save him.

Doc is the human medical professional who develops methods to remove Souls and restore host consciousness. He performs the procedure to separate Seeker from her host and later helps relocate Wanderer into a new body after removing the Soul.
