The Hills Have Eyes

The events occur in the present-day era of the film's production, after previous nuclear testing in the area. Sector 16 sits in the New Mexico desert as a former nuclear testing village. It is the home of the inbred mutant clan that rose from the fallout and the weapons programs that scarred the landscape. The base is later occupied by the U.S. military and scientists seeking to exterminate the mutants, adding a tense overlay of surveillance and mining tunnels beneath the surface.
