In the late 1860s, Petra finds herself simultaneously engaged to three local bachelors. When the town turns hostile, she flees an angry mob and takes refuge in a rectory, seeking safety and a chance to decide her own future. The film adapts Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson’s novel “Fiskerjænten.”
