As Hilda’s body weakens, the cousins desperately try to sabotage her relationship with her old crush, Bill, aiming to eliminate any chance they might lose their inheritance. They falsely accuse Bill of being a sex offender, staging scenes to make him appear inappropriate, which ultimately leads to Hilda believing she has witnessed his misconduct. This causes her health to deteriorate rapidly, and she dies in shock, having been manipulated by her family. Before her death, she manages to curse them, revealing her anger for how they have taken advantage of her loneliness. After her passing, the family quickly forces her to sign her will, which leaves her estate to the cousins’ names—though they are unaware of the true value of the estate, as it turns out to be heavily in debt. In a twist of karma, they learn that Hilda’s estate, including a mysterious painting called “Dog,” is almost worthless after taxes and debts are deducted. However, the painting, which was initially overlooked, turns out to be worth four million dollars. This discovery is made when Macey, one of the sisters, finds an appraisal letter just as Savannah is about to destroy the painting. This unexpected windfall brings a strange form of justice: the family’s greed and treachery are now partly offset by this shocking financial twist. Ultimately, the film ends with the sisters holding onto the valuable painting, their selfish schemes having been momentarily balanced out by the bizarre irony that Hilda’s true fortune was hidden in plain sight all along.
