Alf returns to face a sudden relocation, as his family is shifted from their familiar East End house into a cramped high‑rise council block. He struggles with the long commute, the trek to the corner pub, his ever‑patient wife Else, rebellious daughter Rita, and Rita’s wayward, perpetually‑unemployed husband Mike, whose philandering adds further consternation.
