The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert

Anthony 'Tick' Belrose, also known as Mitzi Del Bra, receives an exciting opportunity to perform at the Lasseters Hotel Casino Resort. This venue is managed by his estranged wife, Marion, setting the stage for a complex reunion.

To embark on his tour, Tick convinces his closest friends to join him: Bernadette, a transgender woman mourning her partner, and Adam, an exuberant drag queen known as Felicia. Together, they prepare for a four-week performance tour across Australia.

The trio sets off in a large bus affectionately named 'Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.' Their adventure through Australia's breathtaking yet harsh landscapes begins as they embark on this transformative journey.

The group enjoys an uplifting performance for a friendly gathering of Aboriginal Australians at a corroboree. This positive encounter contrasts sharply with some of the tougher experiences they will face on their journey.

While passing through rural Australia, the trio encounters harsh realities, including homophobic slurs and violence. Their bus is vandalized with hateful graffiti, highlighting the societal challenges they face.

After the bus breaks down in the desert, Adam devotes a day to repainting it lavender, turning the recovery effort into a form of self-expression. This act helps them cope with the negativity they have encountered.

During their travels, they meet Bob, a mechanic who has experienced heartbreak. Together with the group, he finds a sense of companionship and healing after his wife departs, connecting them all on a deeper level.

Before arriving in Alice Springs, Tick reveals to his friends that he and Marion have never officially divorced. This startling confession reveals the emotional stakes involved in his journey back to her.

In Coober Pedy, they face a serious threat when Adam narrowly escapes injury from a group of homophobes. His near-miss brings the group closer together as they navigate the dangers of rural life.

As bonds strengthen, the trio shares a dream to scale Kings Canyon in full drag, fulfilling a long-held ambition of Adam. This moment signifies their collective courage and commitment to supporting one another.

Upon reaching the hotel, Tick learns that he has an eight-year-old son, Benjamin, whom he hasn't seen in years. The revelation brings joy and apprehension, but he discovers Benjamin accepts him for who he is.

As their contract at the resort ends, Tick and Adam decide to return to Sydney with Benjamin. Meanwhile, Bernadette chooses to stay at the resort, developing a deeper bond with Bob, who may work there now.

Tick, Adam, and Benjamin embark on their journey back, aiming to strengthen their relationship. This moment symbolizes hope and connection within the family they are starting to build.

In a humorous twist, the post-credit scene shows the dummy attached to a kite from earlier in the film, which is discovered by a monk in Tibet. This light-hearted wrap-up provides a whimsical conclusion to their extraordinary adventure.
