Tarzan Triumphs

During World War II, Tarzan and his son Boy are living on the edge of the Great Escarpment, while Jane has returned to the United Kingdom to care for her sick mother. In a letter to Tarzan and Boy, Jane paints a picture of the widening struggle against Nazi Germany and the ways the war reaches distant corners of Africa. The world Tarzan calls home feels suddenly small in the face of a new threat: a small squad of German paratroopers lands in Sub-Saharan Africa with a clear aim to strip the region of its raw materials and to use a lost city, Palandrya, as an advance base to tighten their grip on the land and its people.

Lt. Reinhardt Schmidt is separated from his comrades, but he carries a shortwave radio that lets him contact his Berlin superiors. He tries to keep his cover as an Englishman, keeping his voice steady even as the stakes mount and the danger grows. At Tarzan’s camp, Schmidt’s presence is soon revealed when Zandra finds him after the Germans kill her brother Achmet. Tarzan, cautious and wary, quickly deduces that Schmidt is a German agent in disguise. The tension escalates when Tarzan’s loyal companion, Cheetah, aided by an elephant, shows extraordinary force by pushing Schmidt off a cliff, ending the German officer’s plans and his life.

Zandra escapes the murderous chaos and seeks Tarzan’s help for her people. She believes that Tarzan, the jungle’s most formidable figure, can turn the tide against the invaders. Tarzan, however, remains wary and stoic, having once declared that “Jungle people fight to live, civilized people live to fight.” He listens to Zandra’s plea but answers with tempered restraint, weighing the costs of intervention against the danger already at their doorstep. Zandra’s resolve hardens as she weighs leaving her homeland behind, but Tarzan’s caution leads him to pause her plans for now.

Elsewhere, the German forces tighten their grip on Tarzan’s camp as they search for the crucial radio that could give them a strategic advantage. In a brutal blow, they kidnap Boy, assuming Tarzan has perished after a gunshot tears Tarzan from a tree. Tarzan survives and, though hidden by Cheetah’s monkey brigade, remains furious and ready to act. The invaders are driven back, and the once-dominant camp of the German force begins to crumble under the jungle’s unexpected counteroffensive.

In the final moments, the battlefield quiets as Tarzan’s survival and resilience prove decisive. The victory feels bittersweet, underscored by the strange, almost surreal postscript: back in Berlin, Cheetah’s wild, unfamiliar sounds on a radio are mistaken for the rants of Adolf Hitler, a bizarre echo that hints at the war’s far-reaching, chaotic reach—even within the city’s own walls.

Throughout the ordeal, the stakes remain human: the lives of Tarzan and his family, the courage of Zandra who seeks to protect her people, and the resilience of Palandrya’s inhabitants who face a future shaped by the invaders’ presence.
