What Happens at the End of Take Cover?

How Take Cover (2024) ends, what the final scene means, which earlier moments set it up and how to read the ending if the film leaves it open. The full ending explained, with every spoiler.

In the climax of Take Cover, Sam and Ken find themselves under a coordinated attack in a hotel in Frankfurt, where they realize that they are being targeted by a sniper and his accomplices. As they fight to survive, they learn that Tamara, their boss, is actually behind the attack. It’s revealed that she arranged for their assassination because she saw them as liabilities now that Sam was retiring. Throughout the chaos, Sam uncovers a shocking truth: his missions weren't as morally righteous as he believed. Tamara had manipulated his sense of purpose, falsifying intelligence to make him believe he was protecting the world, when in reality, he was part of a deeply corrupt system. This revelation cracks his sense of loyalty and morality.

As the mercenaries close in, Sam fights back fiercely, eliminating the mercenaries and Tamara’s men. In the process, he vows to protect Mona’s daughter, Lily, and Mona herself, promising to ensure her safety even if it costs him his life. Despite his injuries, including Ken’s paralysis from a gunshot wound, Sam manages a daring escape using the “Beirut maneuver,” involving bedsheets transformed into a parachute.

The final scenes show Sam on the run, communicating with Tamara—who is at the airport planning to continue her operations. Sam, however, outsmarts her by killing her in a surprise attack during their phone call. With Tamara dead, Sam escapes with Milena, Mona’s daughter, hinting at a desire to give her a better, peaceful life. The ending leaves open the question of whether Sam will return to a life of violence or finally find peace, but for now, he’s on the run from his past, with the blood of Tamara on his hands and a new purpose to protect the innocent. Only a sequel could reveal what happens next, but for now, Sam’s fight for a fresh start begins.
