At their first college party, Ben rebuffs a drunken advance and tries to maintain control of the night. Jamie sneaks into a bedroom to sext with Simon, then is forced to abandon her clothes when two partygoers come in to have sex. Ben tries to sneak back to retrieve Jamie's clothes but is caught, and the couple is ejected from the party.

Palmer reveals he is returning to Ohio and will host a coming-out party the night before Thanksgiving. Ben and Jamie resolve to end their long-distance relationships that night, signaling a major shift in their dynamics.

Ben's roommate borrows his car without permission, forcing the duo to abandon their car plans. They end up taking the bus instead, delaying their trip and changing their arrival time at Palmer's gathering.

At Palmer's party, Claire and Simon drink an entire bottle of absinthe and wander off drunk. Reese, a local football coach, helps bring them back to safety, building his bond with Palmer as he comes out.

Palmer confides in Reese after recognizing that Reese is gay. Reese then brings Palmer to a bowling alley to meet his bowling team, a group of all gay men who offer Palmer a sense of belonging and confidence.

Ben and Jamie search for Claire and Simon at a bar, sneaking in to find them, but the bouncer catches them and they are ejected. Jamie also confronts her childhood bully there, who asks for forgiveness, which she reluctantly grants.

Back at another party, Palmer accidentally reveals to Jamie Ben's plan to study abroad in Copenhagen, shocking her since she had not known. Realizing she is the only one who doesn't know, Jamie leaves to find Simon.

Claire attempts to seduce Ben in an outdoor tree fort while Jamie breaks up with Simon nearby, unaware of the moment. Ben and Claire overhear Jamie's breakup, and Claire grows angry upon learning that Ben and Jamie had planned their breakups together. Claire and Simon leave, and Ben and Jamie share a defining kiss as they redefine their relationship.

As the party ends, the friends head back to their lives, processing the night's revelations. Ben and Jamie begin to reframe their expectations and prepare for the upcoming separations.

On Thanksgiving, Ben watches When Harry Met Sally and experiences an epiphany about Jamie, confessing that he regrets the kiss and does not have romantic feelings toward her. He asks to remain friends, and Jamie, relieved, agrees. Jamie breaks up with Simon and Ben breaks up with Claire before both head home for Europe.

Six months later, Ben returns and surprises Jamie at her sorority party, where they share loving glances while dancing. The moment hints at a renewed potential as they navigate their evolving friendship into something more.
